Julian B. Wray was born and raised in Cleveland County and has proudly been a life long resident except for the years he was in school and working his first job. Mr. Wray graduated from Shelby High School in 1961 and then attended Wake Forest University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1965. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1968 and was admitted to the North Carolina bar the same year.
Mr. Wray brings extensive experience to the firm having previously served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 27th Judicial District in Gastonia, NC and as the attorney for Cleveland County from 1993-2001. He practiced as the first Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) for Cleveland County and was the former Attorney for the Cleveland County GAL program. In addition, he has represented the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Board of DSS, the Health Department and the Board of Health, Mental Health and their Board, and was a former attorney for the Shelby Alcohol Control Board.
Mr. Wray also practiced privately with the following firms: Horn, West, Horn & Wray in Shelby, was a solo practitioner from 1977-1983 in Shelby, partner with Church & Wray Law Office in Shelby from 1983-2008, and has been an associate of Teddy, Meekins & Talbert since January of 2009. Mr. Wray is currently a traffic and criminal law attorney and is qualified to represent defendants in capital cases. His trial experience ranges from district and superior courts to federal court.
Mr. Wray is married to Catherine Anne Wray who is employed at Cleveland Regional Medical Center as a RN and CDE. His three daughters are Julianne Wray McDowell, Jennifer Wray Tea, and Rebecca Marion Wray. He attends Central United Methodist Church where he has served as a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Past Chairman of the Finance Committee, and former member of the Administrative Board. Mr. Wray has served as a Sunday School Trustee for over 25 years.
