Daniel R. Talbert
Daniel
R. Talbert is a life long resident of Cleveland County,
North Carolina. He attended Crest High School where he
graduated Valedictorian in 1994. Growing up he was an
avid golfer who was a four year letterman at Crest High
School with all four years obtaining All-Conference
Honors and being named 1994 Northwestern High School
Golfer of the Year. He grew up on River Bend Golf Course
in Cleveland County and spent many hours learning the
life lessons that the sport teaches.
His excellence in academics followed him to the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he
graduated in 1998 with a B.A. Degree with Honors in
Political Science. At Chapel Hill he was active in many
extracurricular activities. In his senior year he was
named President of the Board of Directors of THE DAILY
TARHEEL Newspaper, which is the daily student
publication that is consistently ranked as one of the
nation's top college newspapers. He was also active in
the Pre-Law Fraternity Phi Alpha Delta and was
Vice-President of the organization his Junior and Senior
years. He received the accolade of the Chancellor's
Award for Excellence in 1998 from the late Dr. Michael
Hooker, which is one of the University's highest
distinctions given for his contributions to the
University community.
After four years at Chapel Hill, he chose to attend
Campbell Law School for its reputable strength in trial
advocacy. At law school, he was Chairman of the
Mediation in Advocacy program and was also President of
the Campbell Law Democrats. He graduated from Campbell
in 2001. During his summers in law school he had
clerkships with the law firm of Stott, Hollowell, Palmer
& Windham in Gastonia, North Carolina with a
concentration on insurance defense and municipal law as
well as a clerkship with Teddy & Meekins, P.L.L.C. He
graduated from law school in 2001 from Buies Creek and
was admitted to practice law in North Carolina that same
year.
Mr. Talbert chose to return to his roots in Cleveland
County and joined the law firm of Teddy & Meekins,
P.L.L.C. after being admitted to practice. He was
invited by the firm to become a partner in 2005. He has
been elected the 2003-2004 President of the 27B Judicial
District (including both Lincoln and Cleveland County)
as well as President and Vice-President of the local
Cleveland County Bar Association. He is active in the
same church he grew up in - Central United Methodist
Church, currently serving as a member of the
Administrative Board and also as a youth counselor since
2001. He is happily married to Jessica Talbert who is a
local social worker. He still enjoys playing golf and
backpacking, hiking over 1000 miles on the Appalachian
Trail.
Mr. Talbert's practice concentrates on trial litigation:
namely, criminal defense and family law. He is a member
of the North Carolina and Cleveland County Bar
Associations, The North Carolina Academy of Trial
Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America,
National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the
North Carolina Criminal Defense Section and Family Law
Section of the Academy of Trial Lawyers.
